The “Instead of Binging Jar” was one of the best things to happen to me. I have suffered with a binge eating disorder for many years now and I honestly thought that I could never escape it but this idea has been such a big help.
To make the “Instead of Binging Jar”, simply find a jar and decorate it however you please. What matters the most is what you put inside of it. You will take small pieces of paper and write something to do in place of binging on each one. Every time you feel a binge coming on, pick one of the pieces of paper and DO WHATEVER IT SAYS. Continue to pick papers until the feeling is gone. Feel free to use some ideas from the following list. :)
Instead of Binging:
- Drink a glass of water.
- Do a 15 minute workout.
- Take a walk outside.
- Start reading your favorite book.
- Take a bubble bath.
- Paint your nails.
- Watch your favorite television series/movie.
- Clean or re-organize your house.
- Call your best friend or significant other.
- Look through inspirational posts on Tumblr.
- Add a new blog post.
- Make a Youtube video.
- Go for a drive.
- Listen to relaxing music.
- Write a letter to yourself.
- Make a healthier snack.
- Sing a song.
- Dance around the room like a dork.
The biggest thing to remember is that food does not control you. You are stronger than any binge.
